Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is excited to offer this unmolested Dark Highland Green 2008 Ford Mustang GT “Bullitt” for sale. This is build number 0892 for the 2008 Bullitt series. Ford first reprised the now-famous 1968 Ford Mustang GT that Steve McQueen drove in the movie “Bullitt”, when it brought out a Bullitt edition Mustang GT in 2001. The 2001 version was primarily enhanced for better handling than the stock GT, with a 3/4-inch lower ride height, Tokico shocks, and sub-frame connectors. It also received mild performance-enhancing upgrades vs. the stock GT, with higher flow mufflers and underdrive pulleys, along with a remapped ECM that enabled it to produce more torque at lower RPM. Other elements paying homage to the ’68 that McQueen drove included gauge faces and seat upholstery patterned after McQueen’s more famous Mustang. In 2008, for the 40th anniversary of the movie, Ford brought us the next generation Bullitt, which sported several enhancements to differentiate it from mere Mustang GTs. In 2008, the Bullitt Mustangs were actually Mustang GTs with the optional Bullitt package; as opposed to being “Bullitt Mustangs” like the 2001’s were. They were only available in black or Dark Highland Green and came with modified badging with a unique satin finish and Bullitt crosshair medallion on the rear decklid. Their grilles were sans-fog light and had a chrome bezel to more closely resemble the 1968 GT that McQueen drove. They also received special 18-inch aluminum wheels, featuring a machined flange and dark gray satin spokes. Interior features consisted of a unique aluminum shifter ball, engine-turned instrument panel bezel, special pedal covers, revised instrument clusters with “gunsight” graphics, Shelby GT500-style sport front bucket seats, special aluminum sill plates with Bullitt logo, and a serialization plate on the strut tower brace in the engine bay. The power comes from a SOHC 4.6L V8, with 15 more HP than a stock Mustang GT had, and all had 5-speed manual transmissions. Ford supplied a different ECM calibration for the Bullitt GTs, designed to provide enhanced throttle response, as well as being able to run on any of the 3 common octane ratings (87, 91, or 93 octane) with no hiccups; plus, the redline was increased from 6250 RPM to 6500 RPM. A 3.73:1 rear axle ratio was standard, and the exhaust note was specially tuned to provide that “signature Bullitt exhaust sound”. The brakes received special carbon metallic pads for enhanced stopping power, and the suspension was improved by utilizing a 6mm lower ride height, along with a unique strut tower brace and unique shock and strut damping. In 2008, a total of 5772 Mustang GT Bullitt packages were sold, with 4346 of them in the Dark Highland Green that you see here.
