1965 Mustang – Tropical Turquoise

This 1965 Mustang coupe is a cruiser’s dream! Nicknamed “Betty Turq”, she is finished in Tropical Turquoise and a white vinyl top- a rarity for that year. The interior is white vinyl with a white headliner and black carpet. Powering this beauty is a 200ci inline-six cylinder engine backed up by a 3-speed manual transmission, with drum brakes all around. The spare tire with plaid cover resides in the trunk. An AM radio ensures that you’ll be cruising to your favorite oldies.

I am the fourth owner of the car, and the history can be traced back to Oklahoma City, OK where it was ordered by a young woman. She kept it until 1967, when she sold it to a friend of hers. He went to Vietnam, and sadly did not return. His parents, who owned a farm in Oklahoma, could not part with the car, and kept it stored in one of their barns until the mid-1980’s, when a friend of the family who had been inquiring about the Mustang for many years finally purchased it. Needing a light refresh after nearly 20 years in storage, he had the car repainted and refreshed the engine for unleaded gasoline. He and his wife used this car as their special “date night” car until 2017, when getting up there in age, he decided to put it up for sale and let a new generation of couple enjoy it.

Since then, it has been lovingly driven and cared for, winning numerous awards at car shows- including one of the most prestigious: Gale Halderman, the original designer of the Mustang for Ford in the early 1960’s, was a special judge at the Mustang Club of Ohio section at the Arthritis Foundation Car Show. He was asked to pick, out of the hundreds of Mustangs that were at the show, including Mach 1 trailer queens and fire-breathing 1970 Boss’, street-ripping GT’s and Cobras, his favorite Mustang. Out of all of those, he selected this 1965 Mustang, and we were awarded a trophy autographed by Gale Halderman himself, who had hand-selected our Betty Turq. If desired, the trophy will go with the car.

The paint is incredibly nice, as is all of the chrome on the car. The underside is incredibly clean, and the frames are solid. Brand new shocks were installed on all four corners three years ago. All of the glass is original, all windows go up and down freely. There are front lap belts.

If you are looking for a Mustang to take to Mid-Ohio and race, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a Mustang to tear the engine out of and drop in a 5.0, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a Mustang to chop and drop, move along.

However, if you’re looking for a Mustang that you can cruise, windows down, and get thumbs up everywhere you go, you’ve found your car. If you’re looking for a Mustang that you’re never going to park next to its twin at a car show, you’ve found your car. This is a special car for a special person.
